損害賠償管理調整局 (CMA) が運転免許庁 (DVLA) に行った情報公開請求によると、ロンドンで 26,117 台の車両が盗難されたと報告されています。

データによると、英国全土で 98,730 台の車両盗難が発生しました。 これは、英国のどこかで約 5 分ごとに 1 台の車両が盗難されていることを意味し、全国平均の割合は人口 10 万人あたり 146.63 台です。

元刑事で現在はCMAのマネージングディレクターであるフィリップ・スウィフト氏は、「この数字は英国の車両犯罪問題の規模とパターンについてとても興味深い」と述べた。

「そのうちの高い割合が組織犯罪組織の標的となっている高価な車、つまり二度と見つからない可能性が非常に高い車であることを考慮すると、保険会社のコストは数十億ポンドに達し、保険料の引き上げ圧力が生じています。」

車両盗難が報告されている上位 4 つの地域には、英国最大の都市の一部が含まれていますが、グラスゴーを含むストラスクライドとリバプールを含むマージーサイドでは、比例して自動車犯罪のレベルが非常に低い

(私的な考えですが。。これはとても驚いています・・学生時代にリバプールを車で旅をして、３０分の間にトランクの中から根こそぎ、現金以外のものを盗まれた経験上・・・)

スウィフト氏は次のように付け加えた。「比較的人口の少ない地域の一部はひどく苦しんでいる。 エセックス州は車両盗難件数が 5 番目に多く、昨年はマージーサイド市の 6 倍です。

私の個人的な見解は、一部の警察は他の警察よりも自動車犯罪をより真剣に受け止めているようです。エセックス警察から最近受け取った連絡により、日々の保険金請求の処理の中で、頻繁に警察に犯罪被害の報告を求めます。

その結果、エセックス州が最も長く、場合によっては保険金の支払いまでに1 年以上かかります。従ってエセックス州の住民は、自分の車に傷が付けられる高いリスクを抱えて暮らしているだけでなく、

もし車に傷がついた場合の賠償請求の検討が大幅に遅れることにも直面しているという二重苦に直面している」との事です。

【補足ニュース】現在は高価な買値がつく、触媒コンバーターがついている車は狙われています。このパーツには高価な金属、ロジウム、パラジウム、プラチナ等の希少性の高いレアメタルが使用されています。犯行グループはそれら希少金属を金属ディーラーなどに売ってお金にするためです。パラジウムは２，３年前から供給不足に陥っているようで、ロジウムも価格が高騰しているようです。　その中でもプリウスが圧倒的に多いとのこと。また、車高の高いSUVも作業がしやすいため狙われるとのこと。

Freedom of Information request to The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) by Claims Management & Adjusting (CMA) shows 26,117 vehicles were reported as being stolen in London.

Across the UK, the data shows 98,730 vehicle thefts took place. That means a vehicle is stolen somewhere in the UK about every five minutes, at a national average rate of 146.63 per 100,000 population.

Philip Swift, a former detective and now managing director of CMA, said: “The figures provide intriguing insights into the scale and pattern of the UK’s vehicle crime problem.

“When you consider that a high percentage of these will be expensive cars targeted by organised criminal gangs – vehicles that will very likely never be seen again – the pound note cost to insurers runs to billions, bringing pressure to increase premiums.”

The top four areas for reported vehicle thefts include some of the UK’s largest cities, however Strathclyde, which covers Glasgow, and Merseyside, which covers Liverpool, see proportionally very low levels of car crime.

Swift added: “Some relatively low population areas suffer terribly. Why did Essex report the fifth highest number of vehicle thefts – six times as many as Merseyside last year? My personal view is that some constabularies appear to take car crime more seriously than others – they have better strategies and put in more effort.

“A communication we received recently from Essex Police sheds unfortunate light on the situation. During our day-to-day insurance claims handling, we frequently ask police services for crime reports. We track the delivery times and Essex take by far the longest – sometimes more than a year.

“So, not only do Essex residents live with a high risk of having their cars nicked, they also face substantial delays in having their claims considered should it happen. What a double whammy!”
